PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
PEABODY ESSEX MUSEUM
Surfland
The Peabody Essex Museum has one of the world’s finest and largest photography collections — more than half-million rare and vintage images representing nearly every format and process since the advent of photography. PEM’s exhibitions provide a fresh perspective on photography’s contributions to our global and visual culture.
Surfland was Joni Sternbach’s first solo exhibition at a major art museum. Sternbach uses the 19th-century tintype photographic process to capture dynamic surfing culture along America’s coasts.
